Secure Mobile Access 100 10.2 NetExtender Feature Guide

Upgrading NetExtender

NetExtender automatically notifies users when an updated version of NetExtender is available. Users are prompted to click OK, and NetExtender downloads and installs the update from the SMA security appliance.

New versions of NetExtender are included in each SonicWall Inc. Secure Mobile Access firmware release and contain version control information. If the SMA appliance has been upgraded with new software, and a connection is made from a system using a previous, older version of NetExtender, it is automatically upgraded to the new version.

The automatic upgrading feature: user can auto upgrade from the old NetExtender to the new NetExtender. It is supported for the exe installer version of NetExtender Windows and for the Tar installer version of NetExtender Linux.

After the auto upgrade is successful, all profiles in the old NetExtender are imported to connections in the new NetExtender.

If the user uninstalls the old NetExtender manually and keeps profiles during uninstall, after the user installs the new NetExtender, NetExtender imports all profiles to connections.

Auto upgrade can be disable in settings.

Limitation of Auto Upgrade

After upgrading from the old NetExtender to the new NetExtender, the NetExtender is not able to auto-reconnect; the user should connect manually.

There is one exception to the automatic upgrading feature is not supported for the MSI version of NetExtender. If NetExtender was installed with the MSI package, it must be upgraded with a new MSI package. The MSI package is designed for the administrator to deploy NetExtender through Active Directory, allowing full version control through Active Directory.
