SonicOS 7.0 Access Points

Bluetooth LE Devices

Most SonicWave appliances (excluding 432 outdoor and the 231) support Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), a wireless personal area network technology that provides considerably reduced power consumption and cost while maintaining a similar communication range to standard Bluetooth appliances. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is a subset of classic Bluetooth that enables smart phones, tablets, SonicWall mobile applications, and other devices, such as other SonicWaves, to easily connect to the SonicWave access point, especially when in close proximity to an iBeacon appliance. BLE also provides location estimation and an easier SonicWave configuration.

iBeacon is a protocol developed by Apple. Various vendors make iBeacon-compatible BLE devices that broadcast their identifier to nearby portable electronic devices. The technology enables smart phones, tablets, and other devices to perform actions when in close proximity to an iBeacon.
