Resetting SMA to Factory Default Settings with CLI via Console Port
The SMA appliance's console port allows access to the SMA command line interface (CLI) via the DB-9 to RJ-45 cable. This procedure describes how to access the SMA via console port, configuring console login, capturing, and saving the console screen output to a file using terminal applications such as PuTTY, Tera Term, or SecureCRT.
To reset your SMA to its factory default settings with CLI via console port

Configuring console login:

Attach the cable to the appliance port marked console. Attach the other end of the cable to a serial port on the configuring computer.

Launch PuTTY, or Tera Term or SecureCRT.

In the PuTTY Configuration application, on the Category > Connection, click the Serial and configure the following (example shown below is from PuTTY terminal application).

Navigate to Category > Session, click Session and select the Connection type Serial and ensure the Serial line is COM1 (or COM2) and Speed is 115200.

Click Open to display the Device NAME> prompt.

Enter the Admin's username at the User Login: prompt.
Only the admin user will be able to login from the CLI. The default Admin username is admin. The default username can be changed.

Enter the Admin's password in the Password: prompt.
Suppose an invalid or mismatched username or password is entered. In that case, the CLI prompt will return to the homepage, and an error message "CLI administrator login denied due to bad credentials" will be logged.

The Main Menu appears, enter the number 7 to boot to safe mode.

On the next screen, enter the number 1 to manage firmware images.

Enter the number 1 to boot with the current firmware on the Manage Firmware Images screen.

Enter the number 2 to boot with factory default settings on the Boot Current Firmware screen.
