This section describes how to connect the PoE and network cables to the SonicWave 681. For best results, first connect the cables and then mount the SonicWave to the ceiling or wall. The SonicWave 681 is powered by a power adapter or by Power over Ethernet (PoE) (both sold separately). SonicWall recommends using CAT 5e cables to connect PoE to the SonicWave.
For PoE, the minimum power requirement is 48VDC, 0.5A (~25W, which for POE is 802.11at).
To maintain power to the SonicWave 681, the maximum length of CAT 5e cable from the PoE device to the SonicWave 681 is 100 meters (333 feet).
To connect the SonicWave 681 to PoE and the network
Using a second Ethernet cable, connect the Data and Power Out port on the PoE injector to the LAN/PoE port on your SonicWave 681. This provides your main Ethernet and PoE connection.
Refer to your PoE guide for more information.
Optionally connect the CONSOLE port using an mini USB cable, for command line management.
