What is the difference between a McAfee stand-alone and SonicWall McAfee Client AV enforcement?

Description

There are many ways to purchase McAfee anti-virus licenses via SonicWall sales. The primary way that a SonicWall appliance interacts with McAfee anti-virus software is via Client AV enforcement. However, depending on the type of sale, customers may purchase stand-alone McAfee licenses that are displayed within the mysonicwall.com account under "Client Licenses". Although this is a perfectly acceptable way of using the license, it is not taking advantage of the SonicWall's ability to enforce downstream clients to update McAfee signature files (DAT files) before browsing the internet. The following few steps can help determine if you have McAfee stand-alone licenses and how to transfer them should you want to take advantage of the SonicWall Client AV enforcement option.

A notice has been issued for SonicWall Enforced Client's (McAfee and Kaspersky). Please see Notice: End of Support for SonicWall Enforced Client for more information.

Resolution

Step 1: Confirm that you have purchased  McAfee stand-alone by navigating to your mysonicwall.com and selecting Client License under My Products:

in order to transfer the license so that the SonicWall can start enforcing McAfee clients.
