What to do :

Please follow the best practices before proceeding with the installation of SonicOS 7.1.X NSv Image.

  • Back up the configuration from the NSv running on SonicOS version 7.0.  Check KB: How can I upgrade my SonicOS Firmware
  • Ensure to back up the Certificates: Export the local certificates from 7.0.1 NSv
NOTE:  Only Local certificates can be exported and CA certificates cannot be exported.
  • De-register the license on exisitng NSv 7.0.1, to unbind the serial number with the current NSv instance from the 'Device | Settings | Licenses' page
  • Deploy a fresh NSv virtual machine, base on the latest version 7.1.X, example:

Azure  - ARM template/Custom deployment or SonicWall NSv on Azure Marketplace
AWS - SonicWall NSv on AWS Marketplace
ESXi - download OVA file from Sonicwall portal
KVM - dowmload IMG file from Sonicwall portal
Hyper-V - dowmload VHD file from Sonicwall portal

  • Register the firewall using the Serial number and the Authentication Key.
NOTE: If assistance is needed to unbind the existing serial number or error like ''This firewall serial number is already registered'', please contact the SonicWall support team.
  • Import the local certificates
NOTE: The CA certificate needs to be imported from the local drive.
  • Import Prefs (EXP) to the newly deployed NSv running SonicOS 7.1.X.
