Cysurance Partner FAQ

Description

In December, SonicWall partnered with Cysurance to offer registered end-users of eligible SonicWall firewalls a cyber warranty. We are now excited to announce the second phase of our partnership, which brings an enhanced cyber warranty for select Managed Detection & Response (“MDR”) customers as well as the opportunity for certified warranty subscribers to receive discounted flat-rate cyber insurance.

DO:

  • Remember that the objective of this program is to ensure that your customers who properly configure their firewall to become eligible for the cyber warranty, and those who take advantage of SonicWall’s Managed Security Services (“MSS”) offerings to become eligible for both the warranty and discounted cyber insurance, are better protected against cyber threats – so much so that SonicWall and Cysurance are willing to offer a warranty and cyber insurance to back that up.
  • Promote the added benefit of the $100K cyber warranty eligibility now on new GEN7 and TZ80 units, and the $200K cyber warranty eligibility when paired with SonicWall’s Managed Protection Security Suite (“MPSS” – Managed Firewall) in terms of coverage and responsible parties’ adherence to best-practices beyond those required for cyber warranty eligibility.
  • Promote the added benefit of the $500K cyber warranty eligibility coupled with the availability of discounted flat-rate cyber insurance for MDR customers with a Gen 7 firewall and Cloud Threat Analytics. In addition, the cyber warranty can be doubled to $1M with the addition of Cloud Email Security.
  • For the firewall warranty:
    • Stress that, as with any program like this, there is a requirement for certain best-practices configurations and firmware maintenance compliance to meet the warranty eligibility requirements. There is also a strict reporting timeline that customers and partners should review ahead of time. Partners should familiarize themselves and  suggest that their customers familiarize themselves with those requirements ahead of time if they do not intend to leverage SonicWall’s MPSS offerings.
    •  Ensure that you understand that this program gives SonicWall partners another competitive differentiator when you are selling SonicWall firewalls. We now offer the only firewall in the industry featuring an embedded warranty benefit.
  • For the MDR warranty + cyber insurance:
    • Stress that, as with any program like this, there is a requirement for additional best-practice controls to meet the warranty and cyber insurance eligibility requirements, such as email security, backups, encryption, compliance, maintenance, security awareness training and business controls. Partners should familiarize themselves and suggest that their customers familiarize themselves with those requirements ahead of time.
    • Ensure that you understand that, unlike other MDR providers who focus primarily on end customer benefit, SonicWall is the only Cysurance partner offering benefits to MSPs. This program gives SonicWall MSP partners another competitive differentiator when you are selling SonicWall managed security services.

DO NOT:

  • SonicWall is NOT selling cyber insurance. SonicWall is offering a warranty and, in the case of MDR, immediate qualification for discounted flat-rate cyber insurance, both of which are backed and managed by Cysurance. ALL the Ts & Cs, claims, what is and is not covered, and decisions on approvals/denials will be made by Cysurance. Please refer these requests to the Cysurance microsite.

FAQs

  • What is the warranty program, and who manages it? There are four levels of warranty:
    Image
For the two firewall warranties, all GEN7 and newer firewalls sold and registered after November 1, 2024, through SonicWall and/or SonicWall’s authorized partners, qualify for a first-in-industry no-cost warranty through Cysurance (https://www.cysurance.com/). It will cover certain costs and reimbursements for business losses if a customer’s firewall is breached and business is disrupted (as long as certain conditions are met).

For the MSS warranties, all MSS customers who purchase MDR, firewall and Cloud Threat Analytics are eligible for a $500K warranty through Cysurance, provided that they demonstrate additional best-practice controls are in place, such as email security, backups, encryption, compliance, maintenance, security awareness training and business controls. Customers who also purchase Cloud Email Security increase their warranty coverage to $1M. In both MDR cases, warranty coverage automatically qualifies customers for discounted flat-rate cyber insurance.

  • What are the benefits of the warranty program?
By implementing the security controls required to qualify for firewall warranty coverage, or by leveraging SonicWall’s Managed Security Services expertise to qualify for MDR warranty coverage, SonicWall customers will enjoy a more secure environment and lower total cost of ownership. Properly configured
SonicWall firewalls that qualify for warranty coverage and which partner with SonicWall’s world-class SOC team’s expertise in complexities of an evolving threat landscape both substantially reduce the frequency, severity and impact of cyberattacks. SonicWall and Cysurance are standing behind that claim by offering a no-cost program offering fiscal benefits for losses resulting from a covered event.

  • What does the firewall warranty cover?
The no-cost firewall warranty offers limited compensation for covered losses that lead to business interruption from the following Qualifying Event

  • What does the MDR warranty cover?
The no-cost MDR warranty offers limited compensation for covered losses that lead to business interruption from the following Qualifying Events:

  • Is there a minimum warranty claim?
The minimum threshold to file a claim is $5,000.

  • Is there any cost to me as an end user or partner?
The warranty is included in at no cost to the end user or partner. Qualified MDR customers who wish to purchase discounted flat-rate insurance do so at their own expense. Savings on insurance premiums are typically more than the cost of the MDR service itself.

  • Is the warranty an insurance policy?
No, the warranty is separate from any insurance product.

  • Why do I need to purchase cyber insurance if I have a warranty?
Cyber warranties and cyber insurance are both tools to help protect against cyber threats, but they have different purposes and approaches:
    • Cyber warranties are generally targeted to specific deployment services or types of security incidents. Warranties typically provide faster financial relief than cyber insurance with no deductible for most events.
    • Cyber insurance is financial coverage for an entire business that experiences cyber risks, such as data breaches. It can help cover expenses like legal fees, data recovery, and customer notification. Cyber insurance policies vary, but they often require that businesses meet certain security guidelines or provide application data sets across many security technologies.

While cyber insurance offers comprehensive coverage, cyber warranties can be an effective way to recover early costs in certain situations. To use an analogy, think of the firewall warranty as an automobile warranty with roadside assistance.

    • The auto warranty covers you for specific problems, like breakdowns or flat tires. If your car stops working due to a covered issue—say, a flat or a breakdown in a certain area—roadside assistance comes to help. Similarly, the firewall warranty covers specific types of incidents that disrupt your network, establishing that if these problems occur, you’re protected.
    • Traditional automobile insurance kicks in if you get into an accident, face theft, or have any other covered damage, and helps cover repairs, damages, or even medical bills. It’s a broader safety net that kicks in for many kinds of losses or damages, regardless of the cause. Similarly, cyber insurance covers a wide range of cyber incidents, from data breaches to regulatory fines, beyond the specific threats covered by the firewall warranty.

In the case of SonicWall’s offering, the embedded MDR warranty can be used as a deductible buy-back, virtually eliminating financial risk.

  • Can I make a warranty claim if I have cyber insurance?
Yes. In fact, the warranty may be used as a “deductible buy-back”, covering or assisting with the insurance deductible, waiting periods or other out-of-pocket expenses.

  • What models are covered by the firewall warranty?
Initially, all GEN7 and TZ80 firewalls sold and registered after November 1, 2024, through SonicWall or authorized SonicWall partners are covered.

  • What are the prerequisites for being covered by the firewall warranty?
To automatically qualify for the firewall warranty, firewalls (e.g., GEN7 and the TZ80) must be purchased and registered in a MySonicWall.com account after November 1, 2024. Additionally:
    • Qualified firewalls must be configured according to the SonicWall Configuration Guide.
    • Qualified firewalls must run current software releases and updates. Security services (TPSS, EPSS, APSS, or MPSS) must be licensed and enabled.
    • Cloud backups must be enabled.
    • The “Periodic Secure Diagnostic Reporting for Support Purposes” switch must be enabled.
    • A Tech Support Report snapshot must be taken, downloaded, and saved per the Configuration Guide at the time of initial configuration, and it must be included when filing a claim.

  • What are the prerequisites for being covered by the MDR warranty and to qualify for discounted flat-rate cyber insurance?Unlike with the firewall warranty, registration for the MDR warranty is not automatic, and requires the partner or end customer to proactively register at https://enroll.cysurance.com/sonicwall/. To qualify for the MDR warranty, customers must demonstrate the following MSS services are in place. MDR warranty coverage automatically qualifies the end customer to be eligible for discounted flat-rate cyber insurance.

  • I understand that guided configurations are necessary to qualify for the firewall warranty. Where can I find them?
Qualified firewalls must be configured according to the above configuration guide to mitigate warranted events. You can find the document here:  https://enroll.cysurance.com/wpcontent/uploads/Sonicwall%20Configuration%20Guide.pdf

  • Who should submit a claim after a covered event?
One of three entities can submit a claim: partner, end user, or specific point of contact (e.g., system administrator). Regardless, the person filing the claim should know the affected systems and breaches intimately, including the cloud backup data location.

  • Where is a claim filed?
Cysurance claims are filed online here: SonicWall Claim Submission – Cysurance.

  • What do I need to provide when filing a claim?
For the firewall warranty, artifacts must include firewall audit log(s), firewall system log(s), and breached system logs, and may include other requested items such as the firewall TSR, proof of breach and costs of losses incurred.

For the MDR warranty, artifacts must include documentation of the date of enrollment in the warranty, log files and information about the symptoms and causes of the network compromise, and may include additional information requested by Cysurance to assess the event, and permission for Cysurance to obtain data from SonicWall or the MSP if necessary.

  • Is there a time limit for filing a claim?
Yes. A claim must be filed within 48 hours of becoming aware of a breach. Additionally, adequate documentation must be provided within 15 days of filing the claim, or it will not qualify for benefits and be closed.

  • How many Qualifying Events can I claim during the enrollment term?
You can claim indemnification for only one (1) Qualifying Event per calendar year.

  • What losses are not covered?
The firewall warranty covers losses that are the direct result of a security breach (non-volumetric DDoS attacks and unauthorized remote access for firewall, non-volumetric DDoS attacks, unauthorized remote access and software exploitation for managed firewall) that lead to a business income event which actually and materially affects the customer’s business operations, resulting in actual, documentable loss of business income which would have been earned had no security breach occurred. Any loss that does not fit this criteria is not covered.

The MDR warranty covers costs for recovery services which are the direct result of ransomware and business email compromise (BEC) events, compliance events, cyber legal liability events and business income events as defined in the Participant Terms and Conditions. Any loss that does not fit this criteria is not covered.

  • If I have multiple firewalls, is each firewall covered under the firewall warranty?
The firewall warranty is per firewall.

  • In what regions is this program available?
The warranty is worldwide, with the exception of Japan, South Africa and Saudi Arabia (all due to jurisdictional restrictions in those countries) and all countries blocked by the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury (OFAC).

Due to legal and regulatory requirements, cyber insurance is currently only available in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States.

  • If I have a self-managed or partner-managed GEN7 firewall purchased prior to November 1, 2024, and I want to move it to be fully managed by MSS, does that qualify me for the firewall warranty?
Yes, GEN7 firewalls qualify; older firewalls do not.

  • If I have 10 self-managed or partner-managed firewalls, with 5 of them upgraded prior to November 1st and 5 that I refresh post November 1st, how can I get them all supported by the firewall warranty?
This is a program to encourage new firewall sales and upgrades. To qualify for the firewall warranty, the firewall must be sold and registered after November 1, 2024, through SonicWall and/or SonicWall’s authorized partners. With the exception of upgrading firewalls to be fully managed by MSS, there is no method of adding firewalls sold and registered prior to November 1, 2024.

  • What benefits does SonicWall MDR provide to help protect me and make me eligible for the MDR warranty?
SonicWall MDR is a cybersecurity solution that puts the power of 24/7 SOC monitoring behind multiple points of the attack surface. Telemetry from multiple security tools, including EDR, threat intelligence, and more, is brought into a single SIEM, allowing the SOC to make connections among the data and provide comprehensive protection against a wide range of cyber threats, including advanced persistent threats (APTs) and ransomware.

  • Does SonicWall have access to proprietary data in order for me to leverage the MDR service and qualify for the warranty and/or cyber insurance?
No, the scans are external and do not use any proprietary data from participants, ensuring internal data remains confidential. SonicWall’s MSP partners work with their end customers in a variety of ways.

  • How often does SonicWall MDR scan my data?
Scans are conducted bi-weekly to detect changes in posture.
