This article explains how to proceed when the firewall shows the following error message in SafeMode after an unexpected reboot:
"Status: Warning! Current firmware absent or invalid. Please upload new firmware."
CAUTION: This error has been detected only on some NSa 2650 and NSa 3650 units with Safemode/ROMPACK version 6.2.5.6 or older
SonicWall has found on some NSa 2650 and NSa 3650 units an error in the correction code module of the SafeMode/ROMPACK version 6.2.5.6 that causes the SonicOS firmware to fail the boot process.
If you experience this error, please open a Support Ticket with a screenshot of the SafeMode view with the error and Support will provide you with an updated ROMPACK version 6.2.7.2 that permanently fixes the issue.
CAUTION: If you have multiple NSa 2650 & NSa 3650 units, please don't install the provided ROMPACK unless the units also experience the issue, in that case, please open a Support ticket for each of the unit before installing the ROMPACK to help SonicWall track the impact.
TIP: A temporary mitigation step is to upload a fresh SonicOS firmware image. This action will let the firewall boot entirely and work again until Support provides you with the ROMPACK.
NOTE: In few corner cases, we have seen that even after upgrading the ROM pack, the firewall throws error as 'Status: Warning!Storage in unstable state. Format suggested (See "Advanced Options").
This behavior is the result of boot storage already being corrupted to the point not recoverable even after upgrading new Rompack. It depends on severity and location of the corruption as it is possible that simply upgrading Rompack to newer version is not sufficient to recover from the problem.
To resolve this issue, after upgrading to new Rompack, perform the following steps:
