Setting up Bandwidth Management (BWM) for streaming video traffic using App Rules

Resolution

The article focuses on bandwidth management for streaming media on the basis of BBC webpage. In order to set Bandwidth Management please follow the below steps:


Step 1. Under Network | Interfaces please press configure button net to the used WAN interface.
Step 2. On the Advanced Tab in Bandwidth Management section please tick both "Enable Interface Egress Bandwidth Limitation" and "Enable Interface Ingress Bandwidth Limitation" and put correct values for Maximum Ingress and Egress Bandwidth provided by the ISP
Step 3. Next, go to Firewall Settings | BWM choose Advanced and press Accept
Step 4. Then go to Firewall | Match Objects and press "Add New Match Object"
Step 5. In the pop-ip window provide the name of the Match Object, in Match Object Type you may choose Application List and pick specific Applications e.g. MULTIMEDIA Shockwave (32) used by BBC website, or Application Category List and MULTIMEDIA (17) for more general control.

ImageStep 7. In the pop-ip window provide the name of the Policy, choose Policy Type - App Control Content, in Match Object field choose the previously created Match Object, in Action Type - Advanced BWM Low (or any other depending on your preference)

Step 8. Choose the desired schedule Step 9. Press "OK" Step 10. Make sure that Enable App Rules box is checked. From now on multimedia traffic will be limited by BWM rule. To verify, you may go to log and see that the rule is  matched and working.
