What happens when a SonicWave's license expires?
A frequent question asked is what is going to occur should licensing expire for SonicWave access points. Or in other words, will the access point continue to serve wireless clients and pass traffic or will the device overall cease to function?
SonicWall’s licensing model allows users to assign a subscription license directly to an access point. There are two available licensing models available:
Should either of these licenses expire on a SonicWave access point, the AP will continue to function and serve wireless clients; an expiration of the license does not result in service interruption. The only constraint will be the access point will no longer receive configuration updates from either the firewall (if using the firewall as a wireless controller) or WNM (cloud management for SonicWave). This design will allow the business operations to continue as usual. Upon renewing the subscription license for SonicWave, the admin will be able to update the access points configurations as needed. Similar behavior exists regardless if the access points are managed by a firewall or WNM.
NOTE: When the Advanced Secure Cloud WiFi Management & Support license expires, the associated security services (including CFS, CaptureATP, Geo-IP, and Application Control) will cease to function
