Information regarding the GUI options and Symbols (Asterisk or Dot, Checkmark)

Description

This article provides information regarding the GUI options and symbols (Asterisk or Dot or Check mark) while viewing a SonicWall firewall.

Resolution

  • The Asterisk (or Dot) is designated to signify ports with a direct uplink internal data channel /bus to the appliance CPU for maximum throughput. These Interfaces/Ports bypass the internal ASIC- Broadcom (switching channel/bus) thus doesn’t seem to partake in Port shield / Mirror/ Mirrored selection. These ports are excluded from the Port Shield Mode For High end devices (eg NSA 4600 and above).
  • The Port Administration Enable (Green Check Mark) doesn’t show up on the interfaces on which a user is connecting to or managing the  SonicWall GUI. So If we are connecting on the LAN, the X0 interface will not show the Port Administration Enable Option and if on X1 (in this case). For the NSA 4600 we are connecting on the Management port with that IP address.
