How to use "Trace Route" diagnostic tool to troubleshoot router connections on the Internet?

Resolution for SonicOS 7.X

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.5 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 7.X firmware.

Navigate to Device | Diagnostics | Trace Route |. By using Internet Connect Message Protocol (ICMP) echo packets similar to Ping packets, Trace Route can test interconnectivity with routers and other hosts that are farther and farther along the network path until the connection fails or until the remote host responds.

Type the IP address or domain name of the destination host.

For example, type 8.8.8.8 and click Go. After some time will display with each hop to the destination host. By following the route, you can diagnose where the connection fails between the SonicWall security appliance and the destination.

NOTE: Routes cannot be viewed until the whole trace is complete
