How to use Reverse Inheritance

Description

This article explains how to use Reverse Inheritance to move settings from a specific unit to the group level.

Resolution

  1. Log into the application side of the GMS
  2. Go to the Firewall Tab
  3. Select the unit to copy the settings from

  4. In the Center Pane, select the Policies tab then select System | Tools

  5. Select the radial for Reverse Inheritance

  6. Select the drop-down then select the filter to be used

  7. Click on the Preview button
    Note: Make sure pop-up blocker is disabled, as the preview comes in a pop-up form
  8. Select and de-select the items to be copied to the parent node
  9. Choose either "Update only the target parent node" or "update the target parent node and all unit nodes under it"

  10. Click the Next button, this next page will display all the changes with the required dependency objects
    Note: Some of these changes for instance, Address Objects will display zones associated with the objects, the GMS will not be creating these zones unless they don't exist. The GMS also, will not be modifying these pre-existing zones either, just verifying the  existence. 
  11. Verify that all the items are there to be copied
  12. Click the Update button (Pop-up window will appear for Task Execution)
