How do I upgrade from one NSv model to another?

Description

From time to time organizations may require to upgrade NSv platforms to accommodate more users and connections. This article provides quick steps on upgrading from a smaller NSv instance to a larger NSv instance.

Resolution

  1. Export the NSv EXP which will be re-used after upgrade.
    1. Login to the virtual firewall.
    2. Click MANAGE | Settings | Import/Export Configuration | Export Configuration.
  2. De-register license on NSv  to unbind the serial number with the current NSv instance.
    1. Click MANAGE | Licenses  | Deregister.

  3. Upgrade NSv CPU\Mem configuration
    1. For private cloud – VMWare and HyperV
      1. Power-off the VM.
      2. Edit VM configuration change CPU Cores and Mem to meet the requirement of target NSv models.
        E.G. NSv 200 -> NSv 400, need change CPU cores from 2 -> 4, and Mem from 4GB -> 6GB.
      3. Power-on the VM
    2. For public cloud – Azure and AWS
      1. Power-off the vm instance.
      2. Change EC2 type (AWS) or VM Size (Azure) to meet the requirement of target NSv models.
        E.G.
        AWS, NSv 200 -> NSv 400, you need change the vm EC2 type from C5.large to C5.xlarge.
        Azure, NSv 200 -> NSv 400, you need change the vm size from Standard_D2v2 to Standard_D3v2.
      3. Power-on the VM
  4. Re-register NSv with a new SN for target NSv models.
  5. After register NSv successfully, re-import the previous NSv EXP.
    1. Click MANAGE | Settings | Import/Export Configuration | Import Configuration.
