How do I SSH into a SonicWall NSv instance hosted in Azure?

This article describes -

1) How to SSH and connect to console of a SonicWall NSv instance hosted in Azure.

2) How to connect to the console from Azure Portal

NOTE: SSH password which was created during the time of NSv deployment will be needed to gain console access. If password is lost, then console access is not possible as there is currently no other way to retrieve or reset the password.

Cause

Access to console could be needed for multiple reasons like to update SonicCore version or to collect data from firewall during troubleshooting. This article provides steps on how to get console access via SSH or via Azure Portal.

Resolution

1) Connecting to the console with SSH:

  • SSH is used to connect to the virtual console of an NSv deployed in Azure.
  • Launch Putty and type the public IP address of the NSv in Azure.
  • Username is management and password is the one which was created during the deployment of the NSv.

  • You can switch to the black SSH console window by pressing Ctrl+s and then the spacebar.
  • At the User prompt, enter the SonicOS credentials (default: admin /password) to gain access to firewall CLI.

2) Connecting to the console from Azure Portal:

  • Login to Azure portal
  • Navigate to Virtual Machine | Serial Console
  • Username is management and password is the one which was created during the deployment of the NSv.
