Cloud Secure Edge (CSE) behavior when firewall is replaced or upgraded

Description

SonicWall Firewalls can be used as a connector to Cloud Secure Edge to facilitate access to private resources protected by the firewall.

Cause

In the event the firewall is upgraded or RMA'd, and a new firewall has the configuration imported, the following steps need to be followed.

Resolution

Prerequisites: This assumes you had a working configuration in Cloud Secure Edge before the upgrade or RMA.

  1. Replace your firewall in MySonicWall
    1. In the event of an RMA, follow How do I transfer licenses from faulty unit to replacement unit after RMA? | SonicWall

    2. In the event of an upgrade, register your new firewall in the same MySonicWall tenant that your current firewall resides in.

  2. Review the upgrade path
  3. Register the Firewall
  4. Import your configuration
  5. The new device will automatically register a new connector in CSE.Image
    1. If you are using a Service Tunnel, add the new connector the the relevant service tunnel profiles and save.  Image
  6. Replace your old device with your new device (network cabling etc..) and boot up your new device.
  7. Your users can now continue to use the Service Tunnel or ZTNA proxy to access resources.
