Gateway Anti-Virus (GAV) Blocking VBA Macro Files When SMTP and POP Inspection is Disabled on SonicOS Enhanced.

Resolution for SonicOS 7.X

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.5 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 7.X firmware.

 

 Overview

While sending an excel document through e-mail, Gateway Anti-virus is blocking the files containing VBA Macros when the settings to inspect inbound and outbound SMTP and POP traffic option are disabled and the setting to restrict Transfer of MS-Office type files containing macros (VBA 5 and above) is enabled on both POP and SMTP.

Resolution or Workaround


1. Login to the SonicWall Management Interface
2. Go to  Policy | Security Services | Gateway Anti-Virus page
3. Click on the Settings button for SMTP and POP3 options.

4. In the Pop-up window. Disable Restrict Transfer of MS-Office type files containing macros (VBA 5 and above)
5. Click OK and Accept.

1. Login to the SonicWall Management Interface
2. Go to  Manage | Security Services | Gateway Anti-Virus page
3. Click on the Settings button for SMTP and POP3 options.

The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 6.2 and earlier firmware. For firewalls that are generation 6 and newer we suggest to upgrade to the latest general release of SonicOS 6.5 firmware.
