Allowing Higher Memory Threshhold for Apache Tomcat 6.0
Allowing Higher Memory threshhold for Apache Tomcat 6.0
Introduction:
How to increase the default memory threshhold for Apache tomcat on windows servers. This is applicable when users experience slow loadtime for the web interface (which is sometimes caused by too many users logging into their junkbox at one time or too many junk messages in their junkbox to be loaded).
By default, the minimum memory allocated for tomcat is 256 mb and the maximum memory allocated is 512 mb.
The following are instructions on how to increase the minimum and maximum memory values allocated for tomcat on windows servers. This will result in faster loadtime for the web interface.
Process:
You will need to edit the Windows Registry to modify the maximum amount of memory that Apache Tomcat can use.
1) Go to the start menu, go to run and type regedit.
2) In the Windows Registry editor, browse to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREApache Software FoundationProcrun 2.0Tomcat6ParametersJava
3) Find JvmMx and change it from... -Xmx512m ...to... -Xmx768m ...or... -Xmx1024m
1024 is the maximum memory value that can be allocated for Apache Tomcat. Any value larger than that has been observed to result in tomcat not functioning properly and the web interface not being able to load.
