Description
This document covers the newly added instances and server size supported by SonicWall NSv firewalls on public cloud platform like AWS and Microsoft Azure.
Resolution
Below are the currently supported VM sizes on Azure which are used by default:
SonicWall NSV Model | Azure Server Size | Interface Count* | Core Count |
NSv 270 | Standard D2 v2 | 2 | 2 |
NSv 470 | Standard D3 v2 | 4 | 4 |
NSv 870 | Standard D4 v2 | 8 | 8 |
Newly supported sizes below:
SonicWall NSV Model | Azure Server Size | Interface Count * | Core Count |
NSv 270 | Standard_B2ms Standard_D2V4 Standard_D2ds_v4 Standard_D2s_v4 | 2 | 2 |
NSv 470 | Standard_B4ms Standard_DS3_v2 | 4 | 4 |
NSv 870 | Standard_A8_v2 Standard_F8 Standard_F8s Standard_D8_v4 Standard_D8_v3 Standard_D8s_v3 | 8 | 8 |
NOTE: The maximum number of interfaces supported on an NSv instance is defined by the type of Azure VM. For example, if more than 2 interfaces are required for an NSv 270, use the NSv 270 with an Azure VM supporting a higher number of interfaces.
NOTE: The maximum number of NICs supported by SonicWall NSv is always eight for all models. But the total number of interfaces in an NSv instance maybe constrained by the Azure VM.

Below are the currently supported VM sizes on AWS which are used by default:
SonicWall NSV Model | AWS Instance Type Size | Interface Count | Core Count |
NSv 270 | c5.large | 3 | 2 |
NSv 470 | c5.xlarge | 4 | 4 |
NSv 870 | c5.2xlarge | 4 | 8 |
Newly supported sizes below:
SonicWall NSv Model | AWS Instance Type Size | Interface Count | Core Count |
NSv 270 | c5n.large c5d.large m5.large m5n.large | 3 | 2 |
NSv 470 | c5n.xlarge c5d.xlarge m5.xlarge m5n.xlarge | 4 | 4 |
NSv 870 | c5n.2xlarge c5d.2xlarge m5.2xlarge m5n.2xlarge | 4 | 8 |
NOTE: The maximum number of interfaces supported on an NSv instance is defined by the type of AWS virtual machine. For example, if more than 2 interfaces are required on NSv 270, then use an AWS virtual machine supporting a higher number of interfaces.
NOTE: The maximum number of NICs supported by SonicWall NSv is always eight for all models. But the total number of interfaces in an AWS instance maybe constrained by the AWS VM. Do select the instance size accordingly.
