Description
The Affiliation Process
Understanding how sharing works in MySonicWall (MSW) is essential. Instead of sharing individual units, MSW utilizes affiliations to grant access to products. Below is an overview of the process and best practices for managing affiliations effectively.
To share access to products via MSW, the super administrator of the account sharing the products must:
- Create a Tenant
-
Establish a dedicated tenant that will house the shared products. For guidance, refer to the How to Create a Tenant in MSW article.
- Move Products to the Tenant
-
Transfer all products to be shared into the newly created tenant.
- Submit an Affiliation Request
-
Initiate the sharing process by submitting an affiliation request. See Initiating an Affiliation for detailed instructions.
The super administrator of the receiving account then:
- Reviews and either approves or rejects the affiliation request. For more information, refer to Reviewing MSW Affiliations.
- Once approved, the products are shared.
Firewall as a Service (FWaaS) Units
FWaaS units must be registered under the SonicWall Managed Security Services (MSS) MSW account. This centralized registration ensures MSS can handle licensing, renewals, and monthly changes, relieving partners from having to manage these tasks.
This works via Shared Access via Affiliation:
- FWaaS units belonging to a partner are grouped into a tenant and then affiliated with the partner’s MSW account.
- MSS submits an affiliation request to the partner’s MSW account.
- The partner must approve the affiliation request. For guidance, see Approving an Affiliation.
This process applies regardless of whether the firewall is managed by MSS or the partner.
MSS-Managed (Non-FWaaS) Firewalls
For firewalls managed by MSS, the units can be registered in either the MSS MSW account or the partner’s MSW account. However, registering units under the partner’s MSW account is preferred, with shared access provided to MSS via an affiliation.
Steps to Register and Share MSS-Managed Firewalls:
- Follow the instructions outlined in Initiating an Affiliation KB article.
- MSS reviews and approves the affiliation request.
- If additional details or corrections are needed, MSS will contact the partner with specific requirements.
By following these guidelines, you can ensure a seamless sharing process and maintain proper licensing and management of your SonicWall products.
