How to Set On-Prem NSM to Safemode

Description

Safemode is needed at times with On-Prem NSM,  mainly when doing firmware updates. This article provides steps on how to do this.

Resolution

  • Log into your Virtual environment and open the Orange CLI

  • Select the "Reboot | Shutdown" option, hit enter then scroll down to "Boot NSM into safemode" and click "Enable". Click on "Yes" to confirm the safemode boot.Image
  • A prompt stating NSM is in the process of rebooting into Safemode will appear.

  • Browse to the NSM IP address and the safemode page will appear.
    NOTE: It will require http and not https to see this page
  • On the Safemode page, we can see the current firmware version and also upload and boot to new NSM firmware images.

  • On the Application Backups tab, we can create and upload backups as well.Image
  • On the Diagnostics page  basic system information can be seen
  • To download the Safe Mode logs, click "Download System Logs", On the top right side of the page,Image
  • The Administration page is used for selecting the language NSM will use for administration.Image
  • In the drop down select options for English or Japanese.

  • When done using Safemode, click the Exit Safe Mode option

  • Then click OK on the approval pop up when it appears.

  • We can now log back into NSM in the normal running mode.
