How to "Reinitialize SonicWall Email Security Appliance to its Factory default Settings"

In this article, we will discuss how to reset SonicWall E-mail Security (ES) Appliance to its factory default settings.

Resolution

This knowledge base article explains, how to reinitialize SonicWall Email Security Appliance back to its factory default settings. This process will effectively clear out all of the existing configurations and reset the IP address back to the default IP.

There are two options available to do this:

  • Option 1: Reinitialize Appliance to Factory settings from within the web interface
  • Option 2: Reinitialize Appliance to Factory settings from the CLI (Command Line Interface)


Option 1:

  1. Login as Admin to the Email Security Web Interface.
  2. Navigate to the Manage | System setup | Server | Advanced page and scroll down to the section labeled: Reset Settings.

Go to "Reinitialize Appliance to Factory Settings" section. You may select the "Reinitialize Appliance" button to kick off the reset process of the ES Appliance.  This will set the ES Appliance back to its original factory settings and then reboot. The default IP address of the ES Appliance will return to 192.168.168.169.

Option 2:

  • From the CLI:
    Assuming that you have successfully logged into the ES appliance's CLI, you can issue the "reinitializetofactorysetings" command to initiate the reset to factory settings process.
