How to disable IPv6 traffic on an Interface

Description

The IPv6 is enabled by default on devices running 5.9 , 6.2 or 7.x versions of firmware. This article explains how to disable IPV6 traffic on an Interface if you want to pass only IPv4 traffic.

Resolution for SonicOS 7.X

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.5 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 7.X firmware.

  •  Navigate to Network|System| Interfaces on the gen 7 Sonicwall firewall.

  • Select IPv6 option on the "Interface settings" page, as shown below:

  • Click on edit pencil icon to configure the required interface to Disable IPv6 Traffic ( X0 interface for example is used

          for illustration here) and click on the "Advanced" tab from Edit interface displayed dialog box, as shown below:

  • Enable the checkbox under "Advanced" for "Disable all IPv6 Traffic on the Interface" and click OK to update the configuration.

Resolution for SonicOS 6.5

This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.2 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 6.5 firmware.

 

  • Navigate to Manage > System Setup| Nnetwork| Interfaces on your Sonicwall Firewall device.

  • Select IPv6 option on "View IP Version", as shown below.

  • Click on edit pencil icon to configure the required interface to Disable IPv6 Traffic ( X0 interface for example is used for illustration here) and click to the "Advanced" Tab from Edit Interface displayed dialog box, as shown below:

  • Enable the checkbox under "Advanced Settings" for  "Disable all IPv6 Traffic on the Interface" and click OK to update the configuration.

Resolution for SonicOS 6.2 and Below

The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 6.2 and earlier firmware. For firewalls that are generation 6 and newer we suggest to upgrade to the latest general release of SonicOS 6.5 firmware.

  • Navigate to Network | Interfaces on your Sonicwall Firewall device.
