How to deploy NSv on VMWare ESXi 8.0 platform starting SonicOS 7.1.1 and above versions?

Description

This document describes steps to deploy NSv 270/470/870 models on VMWare ESXi 8.0 platform starting SonicOS 7.1.1 versions and above. 

It is important to note that the versions SonicOS 7.0.1 and previous versions and VMWare ESXI 7.x and previous versions will continue to follow the previous process outlined in the NSv Series on VMware Getting Started Guide (https://www.sonicwall.com/techdocs/pdf/nsv-series-on-vmware-getting-started-guide.pdf

 Deploying NSv Appliance on VMWare ESXi Platform 8.x and above

  1. Download ova file from MSW download.
    • Extract downloaded ova file from MSW download to three files using 7-zip application: vmdk file, nvram file and ovf file
      NOTE: If you are using windows, you can use 7-zip application to extract the files

    • In case you are using a macbook, you can try below steps:

      Files will be extracted to same location post running the tar –xvf command
  2. In ESXi Host Client window, Select Create/Register VM

  3. In Select Creation Type screen, select Deploy a virtual machine from an OVF or OVA file and click NEXTImage
  4. In Select OVF and VMDK files screen, select ovf, vmdk and nvram files extracted from OVA file and click NEXTImage
  5. In Select storage screen, select a datastore for the virtual machines’s configuration files and all of its virtual disks. This is the location where you want to store the virtual machine files. Leave the default settings for the data store provisioning and click NEXT

  6. In the Deployment Options screen, Select SonicWall NSv 470 Deployment type and click NEXT

  7. In Additional settings screen, Leave the default settings and click NEXT

  8. In the Ready to complete screen, review the settings and click Finish to create the NSv appliance. To change the setting, click Back to navigate back through the screens to make a change.
