Cysurance Partner FAQ

Description
SonicWall has partnered with Cysurance to offer registered end-users of eligible SonicWall firewalls a cyber warranty. Cysurance also offers cyber insurance, however that is not part of this current offer.
Cyber warranties and cyber insurance are both tools to help protect against cyber threats, but they have different purposes and approaches:
- Cyber warranties are generally targeted to specific deployment scenarios or types of security incidents. Warranties typically provide faster financial relief than cyber insurance with no deductible.
- Cyber insurance is financial coverage for an entire business that experiences cyber risks, such as data breaches. It can help cover expenses like legal fees, data recovery, and customer notification. Cyber insurance policies vary, but they often require that businesses meet certain security guidelines or provide application data sets across many security technologies.
While cyber insurance offers comprehensive coverage, cyber warranties can be a good way to recover early costs in certain situations. To use an analogy, think of the firewall warranty as an automobile warranty with roadside assistance.
- The auto warranty covers you for specific problems, like breakdowns or flat tires. If your car stops working due to a covered issue—say, a flat or a breakdown in a certain area—roadside assistance comes to help. Similarly, the firewall warranty covers specific types of incidents that disrupt your network, ensuring that if these problems occur, you’re protected.
- Traditional automobile insurance kicks in if you get into an accident, face theft, or have any other covered damage, and helps cover repairs, damages, or even medical bills. It’s a broader safety net that kicks in for many kinds of losses or damages, regardless of the cause. Similarly, cyber insurance covers a wide range of cyber incidents, from data breaches to regulatory fines, beyond the specific threats covered by the firewall warranty.
DO:
- Remember that the objective of this program is to ensure that SonicWall’s and your customers who properly configure their firewall to become eligible for the cyber warranty are better protected against cyber threats – so much so that SonicWall and Cysurance are willing to offer a warranty to back that up.
- Promote the added benefit of this cyber warranty eligibility now on new GEN7 and TZ80 units.
- Promote the added benefit provided when this is paired with SonicWall’s MPSS (Managed Firewall) in terms of coverage and adherence to best-practices beyond those required for cyber warranty eligibility.
- Stress that, as with any program like this, there is a requirement for certain best-practices configurations and firmware maintenance compliance to meet the warranty eligibility requirements. There is also a strict reporting timeline that customers and partners should review ahead of time. DO familiarize yourself and suggest that your customers familiarize themselves with those requirements ahead of time if they do not intend to leverage SonicWall’s MPSS offerings.
- Ensure that, as a SonicWall partner, you understand that this program gives you another competitive differentiator when you’re selling SonicWall. SonicWall now offers the only firewall in the industry featuring an embedded warranty.
DO NOT:
- This is NOT a cyber insurance offering. At this time, SonicWall is offering a firewall warranty which is backed and managed by Cysurance. ALL the Ts & Cs, claims, what is and is not covered, and decisions on approvals/denials will be made by Cysurance. You may not speak to those details. Please refer these requests to the Cysurance microsite.
FAQs
- What is the new firewall warranty program, and who manages it?
All GEN7 and newer firewalls sold and registered after November 1, 2024, through SonicWall and/or SonicWall’s authorized partners, will qualify for a first-in-industry no-cost warranty through cyber insurance company Cysurance (https://www.cysurance.com/). It will cover certain costs and reimbursements for business losses if a customer’s firewall is breached and business is disrupted (as long as certain conditions are met).
- What are the benefits of the warranty program?
By implementing the security controls required to qualify for warranty coverage, SonicWall customers will enjoy a more secure environment and lower total cost of ownership. Properly configured SonicWall firewalls that qualify for warranty coverage substantially reduce the frequency, severity and impact of cyberattacks. SonicWall and Cysurance are standing behind that claim by offering a no-cost program offering fiscal compensation for losses resulting from a covered event.
- What does the firewall warranty cover?
The no-cost firewall warranty offers limited compensation for covered losses that lead to business interruption from these types of events:
a. Non-volumetric DDOS attack
b. Unauthorized remote access
c. Software exploitation (managed firewall only)
Coverage is as follows:
- Is there a minimum warranty claim?
The minimum threshold to file a claim is $5,000.
- Is there any cost to me as an end user or partner?
The warranty is included in GEN7 and GEN8 TZ80 firewall security service bundles.
- What models are covered by the warranty?
Initially, all GEN7 and TZ80 firewalls sold and registered after November 1, 2024, through SonicWall or authorized SonicWall partners will be covered.
- What are the prerequisites for being covered by the warranty?
To qualify for the warranty, firewalls (e.g., GEN7 and the TZ80) must be purchased and registered in a MySonicWall.com account after November 1, 2024. Additionally:
a. Qualified firewalls must be configured according to the SonicWall Configuration Guide.
b. Qualified firewalls must run current software releases and updates. Security services (TPSS, EPSS, APSS, or MPSS) must be licensed and enabled.
c. Cloud backups must be enabled.
d. The “Periodic Secure Diagnostic Reporting for Support Purposes” switch must be enabled.
e. A Tech Support Report snapshot must be taken, downloaded, and saved per the Configuration Guide at the time of initial configuration, and it must be included when filing a claim.
- I understand that guided configurations are necessary to qualify for the firewall warranty. Where can I find them?
Qualified firewalls must be configured according to the above configuration guide to mitigate warranted events. You can find the document here: https://enroll.cysurance.com/wp-content/uploads/Sonicwall%20Configuration%20Guide.pdf
- Who should submit a claim after a covered event?
One of three entities can submit a claim: Partner, end user, or specific point of contact (e.g., system administrator). Regardless, the person filing the claim should know the affected systems and breaches intimately, including the cloud backup data location.
- Where is a claim filed?
Cysurance claims are filed online here: SonicWall Claim Submission – Cysurance.
- What do I need to provide when filing a claim?
Artifacts can include the firewall TSR, firewall audit log(s), firewall system log(s), breached system logs, and any other proof of breach and costs of losses incurred.
- Is there a time limit for filing a claim?
Yes. A claim must be filed within 48 hours of becoming aware of a breach. Additionally, adequate documentation must be provided within 15 days of filing the claim, or it will not qualify for benefits and be closed.
- What losses are not covered?
The firewall warranty covers losses that are the result of a security breach (non-volumetric DDoS attacks and unauthorized remote access for firewall, non-volumetric DDoS attacks, unauthorized remote access and software exploitation for managed firewall) that lead to a business income event which actually and materially affects the customer’s business operations, resulting in actual, documentable loss of business income which would have been earned had no security breach occurred. Any loss that does not fit this criteria is not covered.
- If I have multiple firewalls, is each firewall covered?
The warranty is per firewall.
- In what regions is this program available?
The warranty is worldwide, with the exception of Japan, South Africa and Saudi Arabia and all countries blocked by the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury (OFAC).
- If I have a self-managed or partner-managed GEN7 firewall purchased prior to November 1, 2024, and I want to move it to be fully managed by MSS, does that qualify me for the warranty?
Yes, GEN7 firewalls qualify; older firewalls do not.
- If I have 10 self-managed or partner-managed firewalls, with 5 of them upgraded prior to November 1st and 5 that I refresh post November 1st, how can I get them all supported by the warranty?
This is a program to encourage new firewall sales and upgrades. To qualify for the warranty, the firewall must be sold and registered after November 1, 2024, through SonicWall and/or SonicWall’s authorized partners. With the exception of upgrading firewalls to be fully managed by MSS, there is no method of adding firewalls sold and registered prior to November 1, 2024.
