Problems emailing logs to a Gmail account

Description
Google no longer supports the use of third-party Apps or devices which ask to sign in to a Google account using only a username and password. A Google Account Generated App password will be needed in order to email logs through a Gmail account. This article covers troubleshooting steps when seeing problems emailing logs to a Gmail account.
Resolution
Resolution for SonicOS 7.X
This release includes significant user interface changes and many new features that are different from the SonicOS 6.5 and earlier firmware. The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 7.X firmware.
An App Password is a 16-digit basked that gives Apps or devices permission to access your Google Account. App Passwords can only be used with accounts that have 2-Step Verification turned on.
- Go to your Google Account ( https://myaccount.google.com/ ).
- Select Security.
- Under "Signing in to Google," select App Passwords. You may need to sign in. If you don’t have this option, it might be because:
- 2-Step Verification is not set up for your account.
- 2-Step Verification is only set up for security keys.
- Your account is through work, school, or other organization.
- You turned on Advanced Protection.
- At the bottom, choose Select app and choose Other (Custom name) Enter a friendly name Generate.
- Copy the App Password. The App Password is the 16-character code in the yellow bar on your device.
- Click Done
For Gmail the server address is:
SMTP Server: SMTP.gmail.com
SMTP Port: 25
User: [yourname@yourdomain.com]
Pass: [yourgeneratedapppassword]
- Log out from your Google account. Lets say you use account myfirewal14@gmail.com
- Login to the SonicWall management GUI.
- Click Device in the top navigation Menu.
- Navigate to Device | Log | Automation
- Use your full email address (in this example myfirewall14@gmail.com) and type it in the field Send Log to Email Address and Send Alerts to Email Address.
- Click on Mail Server Settings tab, enter the mail server SMTP.gmail.com
- In the field from Email Address : you can use any email address:
- Authentication method : None.
Click on Advanced button and a new window comes up with additional fields.
- SMTP port: 25 ( The common SMTP port is 25, however if it does not work try 587 )
- Enable SMTP Authentication
- Use your Gmail ( or googlemail ) Username and type it in . Username: myfirewall@gmail.com
- Use your generated Google App Password and type it in . Password: verysecret123
Now you can check, if it works:
- Go to Monitor | Logs | System logs and click on Export | Send Email and wait for few minutes.
- At the bottom of the screen you will see "Status : the log was slumped to email", In this case it means, the email has been sent out.

- Use the mail server smtp.gmail.com
- In the field From E-mail Address: you can use any email address:
- Authentication Method: None
Click the Advanced button and a new window comes up with additional fields

- (*) Enable SMTP Authentication
- Use your Gmail ( or googlemail ) Username and type it in . Username: myfirewall@gmail.com

The below resolution is for customers using SonicOS 6.2 and earlier firmware. For firewalls that are generation 6 and newer we suggest to upgrade to the latest general release of SonicOS 6.5 firmware.
