This Article Explains about the steps to be followed if incase you run into Capture Client failing to upgrade from 1.5.x to 1.5.12 and logs show "Failed to install 'Capture Client 1.5.12"
Capture Client for Windows may be unable to upgrade to 1.5.12 (From 1.5.x to 1.5.12) on certain Microsoft Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows server 2012 devices. If the upgrade is attempted via manual installation, an error message will be displayed on the screen prompting you to install Visual C++ 2015. However If the upgrade attempt is orchestrated automatically through a Capture Client policy update, the 1.5.12 installer is run in silent mode and an error message will not be presented to the end user. In case of such an upgrade failure, the PC will continue to be protected with Capture Client 1.5.10.
The failed upgrade can be resolved by installing the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 to the affected Windows device. If this is not desired, it is recommended to manually configure the Capture Client policy settings to enforce version 1.5.10 using the “Self-managed” version. This will prevent continued failed upgrade attempts to 1.5.12.
